Abortion Pill Reversal, the protocol that gives women a second chance at choice, has achieved a remarkable new landmark for saving lives in spite of opposition from abortion proponents.
Official statistics show that more than 6,000 lives and counting have been saved through the Abortion Pill Rescue® Network (APRN) as of November 20, 2024.
With chemical abortion becoming more prevalent and supplanting surgical abortion, Abortion Pill Reversal (APR) has become crucial for moms who experience regret after taking the chemical abortion pill and wish to try and save their pregnancy. If a woman takes the first chemical abortion pill and regrets that choice and she acts quickly enough, it may be possible to save her unborn child with APR.
The chemical abortion regimen consists of two drugs, mifepristone and misoprostol. Mifepristone starves the unborn baby of progesterone, the hormone in a pregnant woman’s body that enables pregnancy to thrive. Misoprostol, taken a day or so later, causes the mother to go into labor and deliver her deceased child.
Abortion Pill Reversal is a newer application of a treatment used for decades to combat miscarriage. It entails prescribing progesterone to counteract the effects of mifepristone.

Dozens of moms who have taken the chemical abortion pill and have regret reach out each day to the APRN inquiring about Abortion Pill Reversal. The APRN is a network of more than 1,400 healthcare professionals, pregnancy medical clinics, hospitals, and pharmacists that administer the APR protocol. The network is managed by Heartbeat International, and helps more than 150 women per month start the Abortion Pill Reversal process.
Heartbeat the largest network of pregnancy help organizations in the U.S. and internationally.
The milestone for APR of 6,000-plus lives saved comes amid attempted suppression of the reversal protocol by abortion supporters in the abortion lobby, big tech, the medical profession, and elected office, underscoring the significance of the success of APR.
Heartbeat points to the living proof of the thousands of children who are alive following their mothers having undergone APR treatment, and the impact of the life-affirming protocol.
"Each life is precious and filled with promise and potential that, if not for tireless work of the APRN network, might not have had that second chance,” said Jor-El Godsey, president of Heartbeat International. “What a joy to celebrate this milestone of so many lives saved that they would overflow a concert hall!"

Heartbeat International’s Senior Director of Medical Impact echoed this sentiment and spoke further about the sanctity of human life.
“Today we celebrate 6,000 children all made perfectly in the image of our God!” said Christa Brown BSN, RN.
“We are thankful for each of them and their brave mothers who at one point felt there was no other way and sadly started an abortion,” Brown said. “Quickly, with deep regret, they realized the value of the life they carried and wanted a new plan - and the APR Network was there to help.”
“Six thousand children could fill 200 kindergarten classes!” she noted. “Each of these children were counted by this world as nothing more than an abortion statistic, yet they are alive and thriving, adored by their families.”
Pro-abortion animus for APR
Abortion proponents have tried to denigrate APR, with the media’s assistance, claiming that reversal of chemical abortion is junk science or even dangerous, the claims typically lacking evidence or coming with dubious substantiation from individuals with ties to the abortion industry or compensated roles with abortion drug manufacturers.
Facebook had previously taken down the Abortion Pill Reversal page without warning, claiming violation of the community standards. Facebook removed a post by Heartbeat sharing an APR mom’s story as well, using an unaccountable third-party fact checker as justification. Google also removed ads promoting the Abortion Pill Reversal hotline, citing a report from a pro-abortion group that contained false information.
U.S. House Judiciary Chairman Jerrold Nadler, (D-N.Y.) took issue with Facebook allowing Abortion Pill Reversal ads in a letter to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg. In the letter Nadler resorted to the same pro-abortion information and sources used by the media and disregarded the thousands of successful reversals statistically shown at the time.
Colorado Gov. Jared Polis signed a law in 2023 designating it “unprofessional conduct” for the state’s medical providers to offer Abortion Pill Reversal, with the law undergoing legal challenge.
The Massachusetts Department of Public Health sent a memo to the commonwealth’s licensed healthcare professionals warning them against practicing “in violation of good and accepted care practice,” saying APR is an unacceptable healthcare practice.
California Attorney General Rob Bonta filed a lawsuit against Heartbeat International and a group of affiliated pregnancy medical clinics in the state to block “advertising Abortion Pill Reversal as safe and effective.”
There are also numerous lawsuits in state and federal courts involving New York Attorney General Letitia James and her efforts to suppress promotion of APR.
Overseas, Right to Life New Zealand is campaigning for the New Zealand Ministry of Health to change its position of non-recognition of APR and allow women to have access to information on the treatment.
Physicians in the UK have encountered opposition, including facing false charges of misconduct, for providing APR services to women who desire to sustain their pregnancies following the start of a chemical abortion.
APR has healthy outcomes
The Charlotte Lozier Institute has produced in-depth research demonstrating the safety and efficacy of APR.
A 2018 peer-reviewed study showed a 64%-68% success rate for mothers who start the Abortion Pill Reversal protocol.
Additionally, progesterone has been safely used in pregnancy for over 50 years.
Initial studies have found that the birth defect rate in babies born after the APR is less than or equal to the rate in the general population. And a 1999 FDA review revealed no increased risk of birth defects in pregnant women taking progesterone.
After more than 25 years of progesterone support in pregnancy, the Pope Paul VI Institute has stated, “All of the available evidence strongly supports its safety when used in pregnancy.”
Affirming life worldwide
Brown went on to point out that the APRN has helped women in all 50 states in the U.S. and in 93 other countries attempt to continue their pregnancies.
“The challenges and the remorse of abortion is similar no matter where the woman is in the world,” she said.
“Abortion Pill Reversal is an act of redemption for many women every day,” said Brown. “Each expresses their thankfulness for the team of nurses, physicians, and pharmacists who were there for them in their darkest hours, as well as the joy they now have as they hold their children in their arms.”
