The life-giving Abortion Pill Reversal protocol has reached a new landmark for saving lives

Statistics now show that 5,000+ babies have been saved through the Abortion Pill Reversal protocol (APR).

With estimates indicating that more than half of all abortions conducted in the United States are chemical abortion, APR has become increasingly crucial for moms who take the chemical abortion pill and experience regret. If a woman takes the first chemical abortion pill and regrets the choice, and she acts quickly enough, it may be possible to save her child with APR.

Chemical abortion consists of two drugs, mifepristone and misoprostol. Mifepristone starves the unborn baby of progesterone, the hormone in a pregnant woman’s body that enables a pregnancy to thrive. Misoprostol, taken a day or so later, causes the mother to go into labor and deliver her deceased child.

Abortion Pill Reversal is an updated application of a treatment used since the 1950s to combat miscarriage. It involves prescribing progesterone to counteract the effects of mifepristone.

To date, statistics show that more than 5,000 lives, and counting, have been saved thanks to the Abortion Pill Rescue® Network (APRN), a network of more than 1,400 healthcare professionals, pregnancy medical clinics, and hospitals that provide the APR protocol.

Dozens of moms who have taken the chemical abortion pill and have regret reach out each day to the APRN inquiring about Abortion Pill Reversal, and the APRN helps more than 150 women per month start the Abortion Pill Reversal process. Given that many women choose abortion because they feel they have no other choice, when women successfully reverse their chemical abortion, they often say that not only was their baby’s life saved, but theirs was as well.

Heartbeat International, the largest network of pregnancy help organizations in the U.S. and globally, manages the APRN. Heartbeat recently hosted a Congressional briefing on APR with staff members of pro-life lawmakers at which a mom whose little girl was saved through APR shared her story

This latest milestone for APR with 5,000-plus lives saved comes amid continued big tech suppression, legislation, professional intimidation, and litigation aimed at APR, underscoring the significance of the success.

"Despite Big Tech's big hand of censorship and misguided state officials to suppress Abortion Pill Reversal, women desperate for a different choice than the abortion pill they took, are finding their way to the help they want,” said Jor-El Godsey, president of Heartbeat International.

“Every woman should be loved and supported in her pregnancy,” Godsey said. “Big Abortion, and its powerful friends, should not stand in the way of choice for women to choose life for their baby."

Christa Brown, senior director of Medical Impact for Heartbeat International, works daily with the APRN and the moms who reach out for a second chance through Abortion Pill Reversal. She said that choices and hope do not end with the first abortion pill.

“Each ultrasound image, newborn picture, first steps, birthday party, dance recital, baseball game - are all celebrated by families of children who were once counted as an abortion statistic,” Brown said.

“If you were walking next to these children on the street or in a grocery store, you would never know their mothers took the abortion pill,” she said. “But instead of completing the abortion, each had a change of heart and instead made a bold choice for life.”

Brown said that in hearing from thousands of women from 86 different countries members of the APRN know that regret is common after starting a chemical abortion and often immediate.

“Thankfully, there is a safe and effective treatment available to any woman requesting reversal of the abortion pill no matter where she is in the world, no matter what time of day or night,” she said. “Our team of healthcare professionals at the Abortion Pill Rescue Network stands ready to support them in continuing their pregnancies and connect them with practical resources of support.

“APR is proven, ethical, and is saving lives every single day,” added Brown.

Abortion supporters have worked to defame APR, with the media’s help, claiming the protocol is junk science or even dangerous, generally absent evidence or with dubious substantiation from individuals with ties to the abortion industry or even compensated roles with abortion drug manufacturers.

Facebook has taken down the Abortion Pill Reversal page in the past, without warning, and citing violation of the community standards. Facebook also removed a post by Heartbeat sharing an APR mom’s story, using an unaccountable third-party factchecker as justification. Google had removed ads promoting the Abortion Pill Reversal hotline as well, citing a report from a pro-abortion group that contained false information.

House Judiciary Chairman Jerrold Nadler, (D-N.Y.) pressed Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg in a February 2022 letter over Facebook allowing Abortion Pill Reversal ads. Nadler resorted to the same pro-abortion information and sources used by the media and disregarded the thousands of successful reversals statistically shown at the time.

Colorado Gov. Jared Polis signed a law last year deeming it “unprofessional conduct” for the state’s medical providers to offer Abortion Pill Reversal.

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health recently sent a memo to the commonwealth’s licensed healthcare professionals warning them against practicing “in violation of good and accepted care practice,” giving APR as an unacceptable healthcare practice.

California Attorney General Rob Bonta filed a lawsuit against Heartbeat International and a group of affiliated pregnancy medical clinics in the state to block “advertising Abortion Pill Reversal as safe and effective.”

Studies show a 64%-68% success rate for mothers who start the Abortion Pill Reversal protocol.

Further, Progesterone has been safely used in pregnancy for over 50 years.

Initial studies have found that the birth defect rate in babies born after the APR is less than or equal to the rate in the general population. And a 1999 FDA review revealed no increased risk of birth defects in pregnant women taking progesterone. After more than 25 years of progesterone support in pregnancy, the Pope Paul VI Institute has stated, “All of the available evidence strongly supports its safety when used in pregnancy.”

Working directly with the moms and babies who have successfully reversed a chemical abortion, Brown gave testament to the human component of the life-affirming Abortion Pill Reversal protocol.

“We celebrate each of these children,” Brown said, “as well as each of their courageous mothers and families, who despite challenging circumstances, fought for their children and love them so dearly. Each moment with them is more poignant, knowing what might have been.”
