A simple rezoning request that made unexpected headlines in recent weeks cleared a hurdle Tuesday, with the Raleigh (N.C.) Planning Commission approving the request for Your Choices Pregnancy Clinic to repurpose a house next door to an abortion clinic as its new office space.
Drawing criticism from the abortion clinic, "A Preferred Women's Health Center”—which decried the potential move as “underhanded” and "strictly an intimidation tactic" April 28—Your Choices’ leadership is hopeful they could occupy the space by the coming fall.
"Obviously, we know who our neighbors are so, again, it's just the same thing,” Tonya Baker Nelson, executive director for Your Choices and its parent organization, Hand of Hope, told her local Time Warner News affiliate. “There's another choice on the table. We know there is going to be some opposition, but we agree to disagree with people every single day."
Nelson, who told Pregnancy Help News she expected opposition to ramp up as more pieces fall into place for the relocation, will next gear up to defend her organization’s decision to offer its free, life-affirming services near the abortion business at a June meeting with the Raleigh City Council
