Reaching out to my local CVS pharmacy

“If you don’t speak out against the abortion pill coming to your local pharmacy, you may never get the chance again,” stated an anonymous text I received.

It hit me as ironic as I had just picked up a prescription at the local CVS this week. This was the first time since having learned CVS and Walgreens were distributing the abortion pill.

It was my intention to not fill any more prescriptions at either store, however, having heard there were some CVS stores not currently participating, I decided to go and inquire.

After a brief conversation at the drive-up window with the clerk and the pharmacist about my medication, I then asked the clerk if their store was providing the abortion pill.

He seemed hesitant to answer but offered, “Some, yes we do.”

“Oh, so sorry to hear that,” I responded. “I was hoping you would say, ‘no’.”

“It’s kind of irrelevant don’t you think?” he countered and quickly closed the window.

The sad state of our society—not being able to have civil discussions—is heartbreaking. My answer to his statement went unheard. The fact is it is not irrelevant, but I suspect he does not even know all or perhaps even any of the reasons why.

So here is my answer, dear CVS employee.

Your distribution of the abortion pill is not irrelevant to me, to you or to anyone in our community. We are a small town with a long history of shared values, and it would behoove us to remember that history and examine the potential harm of not understanding the significance.

The incident brought to mind Mr. Gower, the pharmacist from the classic movie, It’s a Wonderful Life. George Bailey worked for Mr. Gower as a kid and prevented the pharmacist from sending poison instead of medication to one of his customers.

Reflecting on the encounter with the CVS clerk, it is my prayer that the Lord would in His great mercy and kindness use my inquiry as a “pebble” in his shoe, from time to time bringing my question and comment to mind as well as revealing the truth of why it matters that they are offering the abortion pill.

Mr. Gower was rescued from life in prison by George’s intervention. CVS employees need to be rescued from taking part in the genocide of the unborn in their community.

Mr. Gower innocently made a mistake, the ramifications of which are horrifying to consider. But these pharmacists and their staff are purposefully distributing a poison to the unborn while putting their mothers at risk.

Christa Brown, senior director of Medical Impact for Heartbeat International, wrote about the effects of the abortion pill.

Over 24 years ago the FDA approved the drug with some safety standards, but under questionable and rushed circumstances. Brown described the scenario as the agency exceeding its regulatory authority using an Accelerated Approval Program.

This sped the drugs onto the market. Normally this program is intended for drugs treating serious conditions, yet the FDA applied it here to an elective procedure to end pregnancy.

Initially the abortion drug was approved for a maximum of seven weeks of pregnancy and then expanded in 2016 up to 10 weeks without science to support the move.

In 2021 standards were loosened further by no longer requiring in-person prescribing.

“This becomes even more dangerous as the ability to access the pill without face-to-face discussion with one’s medical provider makes room for error,” Brown said.

To my friend at CVS:

Are you, along with your co-workers, not concerned about the possibility of an ectopic pregnancy, among other complications, that would stem from the lack of an examination of a medical provider, yet alone an ultrasound?

Will you make it part of your protocols to recommend an exam with ultrasound to the women who enter CVS for the abortion pill?

Given your response to my inquiry there is no reason to believe at this time that you would, but if you were to, it would be amazing for you to make the policy public.

With this open access to the abortion pill without proper medical oversight Brown estimates that pharmacies would become the abortion facility. Do you understand the implications?

“So, we know that surgical abortion’s very, very dangerous,” Brown noted. “But these drugs, even though it may seem like it’s just a pill, are four to five times more dangerous than surgical abortion.”

Tweet This: Chemical abortion drugs, even though they may seem like they're just pills, are four to five times more dangerous than surgical abortion.

With safeguards for women removed, the pharmacist becomes the distributer of this poison. It is relevant for you and to all of us who care about the women in our community.

Even if you buy fully into the “my body, my choice” rhetoric to the point that you don’t believe you have any say to object, do you care about the water in your community? Human remains in the water supply contaminates our drinking water—perhaps that makes this relevant?

Pharmacies have been such an important part of medical care. Now they are being asked to blindly put women at risk of bleeding out at home, experiencing the passing of a dead baby possibly alone in their bathroom and then facing the daily trauma of living in the same scene of that trauma.

Please, CVS employees, consider the cost of distributing poison. If you will not object to the practice, will you push for more information to be offered to your customers? Would you give an honest answer to anyone who would ask you if the effects of the abortion pill can be reversed?

I didn’t ask you if you were distributing these chemicals to harass you. I asked so I could warn you. Now it is my passion to pray for you.
