Thirty-five-year-old Barbara (a pseudonym) had taken the first of two abortion pills she had received in the mail, and, afterward, regretted that decision.
The Missouri woman searched online for a way to stop the chemical abortion process and in the late afternoon hours of Friday, March 14, she was put in touch with PRC of Rolla - only hours prior to a tornado hitting the community of Rolla. The storm would render many in the area without power, including the pregnancy help medical clinic, impacting her follow-up care.
PRC of Rolla co-founder and CEO Joe Dalton shared the mom’s plight in a social media post in the following days:
At 4:46 PM on Friday, just hours before the tornado hit Rolla, I received a call from the Abortion Pill Reversal hotline. (Our medical director) responded immediately and called in the life-saving prescription for her. Since our power has been out, today was the first day we could scan her to confirm the baby was still alive.
Barbara learned about the Abortion Pill Rescue Network (APRN) from her internet search and after she was connected with PRC of Rolla, the center’s medical director sent in a prescription for progesterone for Barbara and requested that the pregnancy clinic conduct an ultrasound scan for her the next day. The weather, however, thwarted this.
After the tornado hit Rolla later that night, causing significant damage, the power outage lasted for several days, and although PRC of Rolla withstood the storm, the power remained out until the following Tuesday. Barbara arrived that day for an ultrasound, driving more than an hour to continue to try and save her unborn child.
“She was very nervous, very afraid,” Dalton told Pregnancy Help News.
As he prayed outside the ultrasound room door, he heard a mixture of laughter and tears. The woman’s unborn child still had a heartbeat.
“More than 4,000 babies have been saved at this center,” Dalton said, “and I think that was the most joyful noise I’ve heard in this center, was her jubilance.”
“She kept saying, ‘Oh, my God, I’m so happy!’” he recalled. “And then she said, ‘I needed this. And once she heard the heartbeat, she said, ‘I can’t thank you enough. I can’t believe it!’”

Barbara is receiving Abortion Pill Reversal (APR) treatment to reverse the chemical abortion she started. She will be returning to Rolla for medical care and meet with PRC of Rolla’s client care staff for support. She told the clinic’s staff if the baby is a boy, she plans to name him Sebastian.
“I look forward to future meetings with her,” Dalton said.
APR successful in the U.S. and beyond - despite pro-abortion pushback
Since the Abortion Pill Rescue Network® was established more than 12 years ago, more than 6,000 unborn babies’ lives have been saved by the protocol, according to statistics from the APRN, a network of more than 1,400 healthcare professionals, pregnancy centers, hospitals, and pharmacists that administer the APR protocol.
According to Heartbeat International’s annual Life Trends report, an average of 150 women start the APR process every month, and the APRN has experienced a greater than 40 percent increase in reversal starts during the past five years. Heartbeat is the largest network of pregnancy help organizations in the U.S. and the world, and also manages the APRN.
Although pro-abortion attempts to discredit APR with claims of ‘fake science’ continue and pro-abortion politicians seek to block information about the protocol, women in the U.S. and around the world have undergone the APR progesterone protocol and gone on to have healthy babies. Progesterone has been used for decades with women who experience risk of miscarriage.
PRC of Rolla has been part of four APR cases so far, including Barbara’s, Dalton said.
Although Missouri citizens voted to enshrine abortion into the state constitution last fall, some regulations remain in place as abortion is once again litigated in court.
Chemical abortion accounts for the majority of abortions in the U.S., and with abortion drugs available through the internet and by mail, women who regret the decision to take abortion drugs will continue to seek help to reverse their chemical abortions. Pregnancy help organizations like PRC Rolla will continue to be available to serve women who change their minds and seek services to save their unborn babies, no matter the legal landscape for abortion and despite natural disasters.

Further from Dalton’s post on Barbara’s chemical abortion reversal:
As I stood outside of the ultrasound room praying, the most glorious sounds of joy erupted from the room. Tears of joy are common here, but this time was super special! “Such amazing support at the time when I needed it the most. I already love him so much!”
Editor's note: Heartbeat International manages the Abortion Pill Rescue® Network (APRN) and Pregnancy Help News. heartbeat is currently the subject of two lawsuits brought bty state AGs concerning sharing information about Abortion Pill Reversal.
