Tens of thousands of pro-life advocates gathered in the Nation’s Capital for the 51st national March for Life January 19. It was the second march following the 2022 Dobbs ruling overturning Roe v. Wade, and the theme centered on pregnancy help.

March for Life President Jeanne Mancini discussed the significance of the theme Pro-Life: With Every Woman, For Every Child in an email with supporters in advance of the march.

“What does a woman need most when she is facing an unexpected pregnancy?” Mancini asked. “Encouragement and support! She needs to hear that she can choose life, and that we will walk with her in this act of courage: she needs to know that she is not alone.”

“Often an untold story, the backbone and heartbeat of the pro-life movement is this very support, present in the more than 3,400 pregnancy resource centers and maternity homes nationwide that care for women, children, and families,” Mancini said.

In conjunction with the pregnancy help theme this year the March for Life partnered with Heartbeat International and CareNet to host a donation drive for pregnancy help organizations throughout the U.S. Heartbeat is the largest network of pregnancy help both internationally and in the U.S.

More than 500 centers signed up to take part in the drive, which will continue through 2024.

Individuals can go to a special page on the March for Life website (marchforlife.org/pregnancyhelp), find their state, and donate to a pregnancy help center or maternity home of their choice by clicking on the organization’s wish list. The donation will be sent directly to the organization.

“While the false narrative persists that pro-life Americans ignore babies after birth,” Mancini said, “the true story is that pregnancy resource centers and maternity homes care for women, their children, and their families before and after their babies are born, walking with them every step of the way.”

Leaders from Heartbeat International praised the pregnancy help initiative.

It's exciting to have the March for Life highlight the heart of pregnancy help with their theme this year,” said Heartbeat President Jor-El Godsey. “We are truly with every woman, for every child.”

“There's no better way for marchers, or any pro-lifers anywhere, to put that into practical effect by helping their local pregnancy help center or maternity home,” Godsey said. “We are privileged to partner in connecting people across the nation to compassionate help in their community.”

Heartbeat International Senior Vice President of Communications and Marketing Andrea Trudden echoed Godsey’s thoughts.

“What a better way to celebrate life than to showcase the pregnancy help organizations and maternity homes that provide women and families with the care and support they need in communities around the nation,” she said. “We are honored that the March for Life is choosing to highlight the front-line workers of pregnancy help to reinforce all the amazing ways they serve.”

“We hope this campaign raises awareness and educates many about the good work going on all over and provide tangible ways for prolife people to get involved,” Trudden added.
