Words matter. Redefining and twisting words to serve a personal or political agenda is ultimately producing lies.
Abortion is the removal of an embryo or fetus from the uterus in order to end a pregnancy. It is not the correct term to use to refer to miscarriage.
Miscarriage is the spontaneous, premature expulsion of a nonviable embryo or fetus from the uterus.
Abortion is also not the correct term to use in relation to the medical procedure used to remove an ectopic pregnancy.
However, this fact is either unknown or purposefully ignored by pro-abortion advocates and the fallacy being used to craft a lie that will incite fear and mislead those who are uninformed with the idea that abortion access is necessary to save women’s lives.

The overturning of Roe v. Wade is leading the pro-death movement to exploit this information gap in its desperate attempt to spin tales of women showing up in ERs in need of medical treatments while doctor’s leave them bleeding to first get a legal consult.
Medical personnel who do not know the definition of abortion are clearly deficient in appropriate training. And any who would hesitate to provide medical treatment for ectopic pregnancy over unawareness of the condition should not be treating patients.
In this age of social media, the pro-abortion apostles are employing fear mongering schemes, relying upon the nature of clickbait and how sensationalized stories spread to work in the hearts of the unsuspecting masses.

Dr. Brent Boles, an OB-GYN who serves as Medical Director for Heartbeat International’s Abortion Pill Rescue® Network (APRN), told Live Action President Lila Rose in a recent interview:
“To define abortion as is being discussed legally and judicially, the abortion procedure or process is the use medication or procedures to end the life of a living intrauterine unborn child and empty the uterus because the pregnancy is unwanted. So that would be the definition of induced abortion, to actively take action with medication or procedures or both to end the life of the child and empty the uterus.”
Therefore, since an ectopic pregnancy is not a child growing in the uterus, it is clearly not an abortion procedure that corrects this condition.
Even Planned Parenthood’s website clearly defines ectopic pregnancy as something that is not corrected with an abortion procedure. It states:
What’s an ectopic pregnancy? Normal pregnancies develop inside your uterus, after a fertilized egg travels through your fallopian tube and attaches to your uterine lining. Ectopic pregnancy is when a fertilized egg attaches somewhere else in your body, usually in your fallopian tube—that’s why it sometimes is called ‘tubal pregnancy.’
The appropriate treatment is typically done via a laparoscopic surgical procedure unless it is caught in a very early stage and can be properly addressed with medication.
Early ultrasounds are vital to detecting medical conditions which may lead to miscarriage and whether there is the risk of an ectopic pregnancy. One would think those advocating for women, regardless of politics, would support the efforts of pregnancy help centers where women are offered free ultrasounds.
Amy Scheuring, executive director of Women’s Choice Network, wrote in an article addressing the misinformation being used to scare women:
“We treat every woman facing an unplanned pregnancy with compassion, support, and professionalism. No matter her health status, our clients often feel trapped in a circumstance that leaves her feeling that abortion is her only choice. Our role is to open the door to other options while providing the highest level of medical care.”
That is the reality and focus of pregnancy help. Should you hear otherwise, be discerning enough to examine statements and separate truth from lies.
Women deserve better than falsehoods and their health is not fodder for political fear tactics.
