(PRESS RELEASE) Assemblyman Jim Patterson (R-Fresno) honored Executive Director of the Fresno Pregnancy Care Center, Kristi Burkhart, at the 2016 Woman of the Year ceremony in Sacramento on Monday.
Since 2009, Burkhart has provided training to countless volunteers who have helped Central Valley women and those they love prepare for an unexpected pregnancy. In 2015, the Pregnancy Care Center, Fresno served more than 3,000 women and men, giving 1,300 new babies an opportunity for life.
“Kristi is a dedicated advocate for mothers facing unexpected pregnancies and a champion for babies who might not have had the chance at the lives they are living today,” said Assemblyman Patterson.

In 2000, Kristi began volunteering for the Pregnancy Care Center as a client advocate. Her heart and passion is for serving women, families and youth, in the hopes of building a culture of life. Kristi makes sure everyone who comes through the doors of the Pregnancy Care Center has access to pregnancy and childcare classes, ultrasounds, as well as post-abortive counseling and community referrals for adoptions- all at no cost to new parents in need.
Kristi’s biological mom chose life for her. She was adopted shortly after birth and flown to California to live with her forever family on a farm in the San Joaquin Valley. Her family, church, and Christian education laid a solid foundation for her faith and purpose.
Kristi and her husband, Chris, started their married life 27 years ago and owned a small business for a number of years. During this time, they were blessed with two daughters and later, with two little boys through adoption. The Burkhart’s four children are now 26, 23, 13 and 11. On October 20, 2015 their first grandson, Macaiah, was born to their oldest daughter Shayla and her husband Randy.
Assemblyman Patterson (R-Fresno) represents the 23rd Assembly District in the California Legislature, which includes communities in Fresno and Tulare County.
