Those who are curious about their fellow U.S. citizens' views on abortion should not look to establishment media for a full or accurate picture.

Polling consistently shows Americans reject Democrats’ push for abortion on demand through birth - yet few outlets outside conservative or pro-life media report on the views Americans hold on abortion. National pro-life group Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America called the media out for other “burying this fact and promoting a narrative that late-term abortion has increased in popularity.”

“Time after time, the American people have spoken clearly about late-term abortion – they reject it,” Marjorie Dannenfelser, the group’s president said.

Dannenfelser was referencing an ABC News/Washington Post poll from late last fall showed that 64% of Americans reject abortion on demand up to the moment of birth.

She cited legislation proposed earlier last fall by Republicans in Congress, the Protecting Pain-Capable Unborn Children from Late-Term Abortions Act, which would line up with this consensus by establishing a minimum federal limit on abortions after 15 weeks - a point at which unborn children can feel pain. This contrasted with the Democrats’ “unpopular legislation to mandate abortion on demand until birth in all 50 states,” Dannenfelser said.

She went on to further note this contrast amid the media’s dereliction in coverage of Americans’ views on abortion.

“As pro-life Republicans go on offense to expose their opponents’ extremism and Democrats fear losing the House and Senate despite record spending on pro-abortion ads, the abortion lobby’s media allies are running cover again,” Dannenfelser said. “We call on pollsters and the media to stop playing games and communicate the truth about where the overwhelming majority of Americans stand.”

The president of the largest network of pregnancy help in the U.S. noted the hypocrisy of the term “choice” favored by Democrats and other abortion supporters amid this backdrop of media silence on Americans’ abortion views.

"The Democrat Party is showing they are not about "choice," only abortion,” Jor-El Godsey said. “Their platform, and their party actions, such as those in Colorado, are taking away choices for women in unexpected pregnancy - rather than helping women they are supporting Big Abortion ideology and profits."

Godsey was noting Colorado Democrats’ current efforts to ban life-saving abortion pill reversal in the state. The media’s coverage of abortion pill reversal is likewise largely reflective of the abortion industry’s bias against the protocol.

The ABC/WaPo poll is not the only one pointing to American’s rejection of abortion extremism.

In January of this year a Marist poll confirmed that 7 in 10 Americans want significant limits on abortion.

The key findings there included:

• 69% of Americans support limiting abortion to, at most, the first three months of pregnancy (Includes 72% of women, 71% of Independents and nearly half of rank-and-file Democrats).

• 91% of Americans support pregnancy centers, which offer vital material, medical and educational support to mothers both during their pregnancy and after their baby is born.

• 60% of Americans oppose using tax dollars to fund abortion domestically, and 78% oppose using tax dollars to fund abortion abroad.

Commenting at the time about how pro-life advocates would protect the unborn and serve women and families following the historic Dobbs victory, Dannenfelser noted the significance of pregnancy help.

“The pro-life movement will fight for the strongest protections possible, in legislatures across the land and in our nation’s capital,” she said. “We will continue to grow the pro-life safety net, which includes nearly 3,000 pregnancy centers and maternity homes nationwide.”

The most recent data from Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America's research arm, Charlotte Lozier Institute (CLI), found that U.S. pro-life pregnancy centers assist nearly 2 million with essential services per year, providing abundant care to women and families. CLI's latest data from earlier this year detailed the real-world benefit from pregnancy help organizations in serving women and their loved ones. The effectiveness of these organizations demonstrates that women and their children can live without abortion - a fact that comports with Americans' views on abortion. regulation.

Dannefelser’s group shared that in 2022 alone, the following polls showed the same findings on Americans’ desire for limits on abortion:

In January, a Marist/Knights of Columbus poll found that 71% of Americans – including 70% of Independents and 49% of Democrats – want abortion to be limited, at most, to the first three months of pregnancy. 91% of Americans support pregnancy centers, which offer vital material, medical and educational support to mothers both during their pregnancy and after their baby is born. 60% of Americans oppose using tax dollars to fund abortion domestically, and 78% oppose using tax dollars to fund abortion abroad.

Last May, following the leak of the draft Dobbs decision, Gallup found 65% of Americans think there should be limits on abortion.

Also in May, an OnMessage Inc. poll in six key battleground states found 50% of likely voters are more likely to vote for a Republican candidate who supports a 15-week limit on abortion, versus 30% of voters who prefer a Democratic candidate who supports unlimited abortion up until the moment of birth.

In June 2022, a Harvard-Harris national poll found 72% of voters would limit abortions by no later than 15 weeks, including 75% of women, 70% of Independents and 60% of rank-and-file Democrats. Only 10% of voters support the position of leading Democrats that there should be no limits on abortion.

In July, national polling by OnMessage Inc. found 70% of voters oppose abortion without restrictions, including majorities of both pro-choice and pro-life voters. 63% of voters disapprove of legislation that would overturn nearly all state-level prohibitions on abortion, even limits on late-term abortion.

A Trafalgar Group poll conducted September 16-17 found that, by an 18-point margin, voters prefer a 15-week federal limit with exceptions to a federal law that would create a “right” to abortion at any time and block state limits. 59% of voters overall preferred the 15-week limit, including 54% of women and majorities of every age group.

Dannenfelser welcomed the poll results and denounced Democrats’ abortion extremism.

“Life is winning in the Dobbs era,” she said. “The American people overwhelmingly reject the extreme abortion lobby-Democratic Party agenda of abortion on demand until birth, paid for by taxpayers.”
