55,875 babies saved in 2020 through Planned Parenthood closures; report (American Life League)

“When Planned Parenthood leaves town, preborn babies’ lives are saved”

(American Life League) Since 1992, pro-life individuals and organizations in the United States have worked diligently to close down local Planned Parenthood centers. The intent is to remove Planned Parenthood’s influence from the community and to prevent Planned Parenthood from doing local abortions.

This week, ALL (American Life League) released a special report entitled, "American Life League’s 2020 Planned Parenthood Facilities Report," which documents how pro-lifers across the country have been extremely successful in their efforts.

Planned Parenthood has gone from 938 medical centers nationally in 1995 down to 563 such centers at the end of 2020. The report estimates that 55,875 preborn children were saved from surgical or pill abortions in 2020 alone because there were no Planned Parenthood facilities in their areas.

Some highlights from ALL's analysis:

The report showed that Planned Parenthood had a net closure of 24 facilities in 2020. That brings the total PP facilities closed since 1995 to 375. Because of the large number of closures, ALL estimates that 55,875 babies were born in 2020 because there was no Planned Parenthood location near enough to kill them (see Table 6).

Here are significant results of ALL's 2020 survey of Planned Parenthood locations:

* The number of Planned Parenthood facilities as of December 31, 2020 = 563 (down from 938 in1995);

* PP facilities closed in 2020 = 33;

* PP facilities opened in 2020 = 9;

* PP has 387 facilities that commit surgical or pill abortions;

* PP has 174 facilities that do surgical and pill abortions;

* PP has 213 facilities that do pill abortions but not surgical;

* Surgical and/or pill abortions are committed at 69 percent of Planned Parenthood's facilities;

* All 563 Planned Parenthood facilities distribute abortifacient drugs and devices;

* Planned Parenthood operates 53.5 percent of all surgical and pill abortion facilities in the United States;

* Two states-North Dakota and Wyoming-have zero Planned Parenthood medical facilities;

* The top 10 states with the largest number of Planned Parenthood facilities are (see Table 7): California (107); New York (47); Washington (33); Texas (32); Wisconsin (24); Pennsylvania (22); New Jersey (21); Ohio (19); Florida (19); Illinois (18);

These 10 states account for 61 percent of all Planned Parenthood facilities in the US;

American Life League president Judie Brown noted: “Planned Parenthood runs the largest abortion chain in the nation. It operates 53.5 percent of all the abortion facilities and commits abortion at 69 percent of its centers. When Planned Parenthood leaves town, preborn babies’ lives are saved. American Life League is proud to be a leader in the effort to close down every Planned Parenthood facility in the country.”

The 2020 Facilities Report documented that Planned Parenthood closed 33 centers in 2020 and opened just nine new facilities. This is the 18th year in a row that Planned Parenthood ended the year with fewer active centers than at the beginning of the year. It also documented that Planned Parenthood has no centers in North Dakota or Wyoming and that 61 percent of its centers are located in just 10 states. California has the most Planned Parenthood centers, with 107 of them located in this one state.

Jim Sedlak, executive director of American Life League, stated: “We are very active in the fight to close down Planned Parenthood centers. We have a dedicated website—STOPP.org—that contains a great deal of information for pro-life activists, including the PLAN on how to close down Planned Parenthood facilities. I am on the phone with activists all the time, and I’m currently doing virtual meetings in lieu of the traveling to various states that has been our mainstay for decades. God is raising up dedicated activists in communities across the country to close down Planned Parenthood.”

Hugh Brown, executive vice president of ALL, added: “Since American Life League’s beginning in 1979, we have always seen Planned Parenthood as the preborn babies’ number one enemy. We not only fight abortions at Planned Parenthood, but we also are a major fighter against its sexuality indoctrination programs and its constant assault on our teens and pre-teens. Closing every Planned Parenthood facility in the nation would be applauded by all who are trying to restore a culture of life in America.”
