Pro-life advocates have been praying for years that God would put an end to abortion. Through God’s power and countless prayers, a court ruling that seemed as if it would never change, was recently struck down. This seemed impossible, but not to God.
But the new ruling has not ended abortion – and this new ruling should not end our prayers.
We do not have a stingy Lord who gets annoyed whenever we ask for help.
We have a Savior who told us a parable which had the sole purpose of inspiring us to come to Him to be saved, and to frequently tell Him what we want. He said that we “should pray at all times and not lose heart” (Luke 18:1).
When we knock on a door, we almost never tap just once. We rap on that panel several times, then try again. If we really want in, we knock until our knuckles hurt.
Jesus wants us to keep knocking.
When He opens the door, He will not grumble and tell us to go away. As He did for the blind man who asked for sight, Jesus still says to His followers, “What do you want Me to do for you?” (Luke 18:41).
And this is where Thanksgiving comes in.

When we pray for the end of the killing of babies in the womb, whenever we ask Jesus for anything, we are to give thanks. We’re told to make our requests known to Him with thanksgiving (Philippians 4:6).
God deserves our thanks even before our prayers are answered, because nothing is too hard for Him. He promises that if we tell Him exactly what we want, with thanksgiving, that He will give us a peace that stands guard over our hearts and minds.
With peaceful hearts and minds, we can think clearly to continue serving Him in the face of opposition from those who destroy the lives of babies - along with their mothers and fathers - or from those who are deluded into thinking that killing a woman’s child somehow helps that woman.
At Thanksgiving we have so very much to be thankful for.
To our prayers of thanks during this holiday, Jesus urges us to knock, knock, and knock again, and tell Him our requests.
We can keep asking Him to have mercy, to stop the killing, to save children and their parents from the devastation of abortion. Jesus is the one who has told us to keep praying.
