Fort Liberty walks back briefing materials that labeled pro-life organizations as ‘terrorist groups’

(NRLC) When in doubt, blame in on an underling. Fort Liberty “has walked back a slideshow presentation on terrorism that named two pro-life organizations as ‘terrorist groups,’ saying it was a mistake,” writes Valerie Richardson.

“Fort Liberty, the U.S. Army installation in North Carolina formerly known as Fort Bragg, said Thursday on social media that a slide identifying the National Right to Life and Operation Rescue as ‘terrorist organizations’ was ‘not vetted’ and ‘will no longer be used.’”

How did this become public?  Sean Fleetwood, writing for The Federalist, explains.

On Wednesday, self-described analyst [and Watchdog Journalist] Sam Shoemate shared an image on X of an anti-terrorism slideshow training provided to service members at Fort Liberty (formerly known as Fort Bragg) in North Carolina. The photo shows a slide — decorated with Fort Liberty’s Directorate of Emergency Services symbol — classifying pro-life organizations such as National Right to Life and Operation Rescue as “terrorist groups.”

Here’s the official statement posted on Facebook:

It came to our attention that an anti-terrorism slide was posted on social media –

After conducting a commander’s inquiry, we determined that the slides presented on social media were not vetted by the appropriate approval authorities, and do not reflect the views of the XVIII Airborne Corps and Fort Liberty, the U.S. Army or the Department of Defense.

The slides were developed by a local garrison employee to train Soldiers manning access control points at Fort Liberty.

These slides will no longer be used, and all future training products will be reviewed to ensure they align with the current DoD anti-terrorism guidance.

What exactly were the activities that raised the suspicions of a “local garrison employee?”

The presentation accused pro-life Americans of “terrorist activities” if they opposed “Row v. Wade [sic],” supported pregnancy centers, participated in sidewalk counseling, displayed pro-life license plates, or were involved in other peaceful activities.

According to Shoemate, “the pro-life slide ‘followed right after a slide about ISIS, a terror group in the Middle East,’” Fleetwood wrote. “Shoemate separately claimed briefing attendees communicated with said Antifa, a violent far-left extremist group, was not mentioned in the presentation.”

“Keep in mind they’re not labeling [pro-life groups] as extremist organizations (which would still be crazy), but as terrorist organizations,” Shoeman wrote. “The military and Dept of Defense are insanely out of control. Service-members are being indoctrinated to view Pro-Life groups as the enemy.”

Carol Tobias, President of National Right to Life, said “One must wonder how a license plate that raises funds for pregnancy resource centers could be construed as a symbol of terrorism.” (National Right to Life’s retired logo was used on the slide as an example.)

“Only under the Biden Administration can peaceful law-abiding citizens and their peaceful activities be considered ‘terrorism’” continued Tobias. “The Biden Administration promotes the deaths of preborn babies and advocates for unlimited abortion, but peaceful pro-life Americans are labeled ‘terrorists.’”

National Right to Life has always worked to protect innocent lives threatened by abortion, infanticide, and euthanasia and seeks to protect this right regardless of a person’s race, creed, background, sexual orientation, or political affiliation.
