Center in abortion destination city offers life-affirming hope for women facing unplanned pregnancy

What a small group of women started in 1982 has grown little by little each year into a very active pregnancy center in a crucial location.

Pregnancy Center Plus in Cincinnati, Ohio, started out providing pregnancy tests, material assistance, and adoption referrals free of charge to young moms in unplanned pregnancy.

Today it’s a comprehensive support hub, offering a continuum of medical, spiritual, and material care for mothers, fathers, and babies.

A big part of Pregnancy Center Plus’s outreach is a strong social media presence on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube.

“We focus on short reproductive health videos to educate and expand our brand's reach among Gen Z and Gen Alpha as a credible, modern authority,” Pregnancy Center Plus’s Marketing Specialist Debbie Durbin told Pregnancy Help News. “Our YouTube channel has become a popular hub for health literacy, reaching over 80,000 viewers last month.”

Staff and volunteers pray every morning together in a chapel on site.

“We pray with clients if they are open to it,” Durbin said. “We pray for our clients all the time, and many of us go to daily Mass as do many of our supporters. If there is a particularly difficult case, an email goes out for all of us to pray.”

Here I am … I’m actually doing it!

Lindsey is one of Pregnancy Center Plus’s grateful clients.

When she first came to Pregnancy Center Plus, she was addicted to drugs, living on the streets, and working as a prostitute. Family and friends suggested she either have an abortion or place her child for adoption. Although substance abuse treatment hadn’t helped in the past, knowing she was carrying a baby gave Lindsey the motivation to try again.

“Within a month I was in treatment, and I had this grand plan…and here I am,” Lindsey said. “I’m actually doing it!”

Lindsey remembers the first time she came to Pregnancy Center Plus.

“I was starting from scratch. I had nothing,” she said. “They helped so much. Now I come in every three months. They’ve been such a blessing.”

Lindsey named her son Chance, seeing him as her second chance, and Isaiah which means, “to save.”

“He saved me,” she said.

“It’s just so amazing to have a child,” said Lindsey. It’s as if the world stops spinning and it’s just you and your child in the room. It made everything bad that had happened go away.”

Another beautiful testimony from Pregnancy Center Plus’s ministry comes from Barbara.

She first walked in years ago as a client in need of support. Impressed by the care and response she received, she gradually came to understand the full impact of all the center does.

Now, Barbara has returned to Pregnancy Center Plus to give her own time and effort to help others. Today, she works on the "frontline" as a Licensed Independent Social Worker. Barbara serves families through the counseling center, offering the same professional care and compassion that once changed her own life. Her journey from seeking help to providing it is a testament to the life-changing care, prayer, and guidance she received.

One other offering of Pregnancy Center Plus is assistance for men. The center has seminarians (men who are in formation to become priests) who volunteer on a regular schedule as male mentors.

Pregnancy Center Plus teaches the benefits of abstinence through a Chastity Education program. Two Chastity Educators go into local middle and high schools to teach a course on God’s plan for the body, and they also offer a summer retreat, free of charge. Topics covered in the programming include authentic relationships, dating, human dignity, and the gift of human sexuality through the lens of the virtue of chastity.

Why the center’s work is so crucial

Since the Dobbs decision, Cincinnati has become a primary "destination city" for the abortion industry along the I-75 corridor.

As Kentucky, Indiana, Tennessee, Georgia, and Florida have enacted protections for the unborn, Cincinnati now stands as the southernmost point on I-75 where an abortion facility remains active.

This has placed Pregnancy Center Plus at the heart of a regional crisis. To meet this challenge, the center has expanded its presence to reach those traveling from the southern states, using billboards, radio, and social media to be a voice of hope, offering a life-affirming alternative to those who feel they have no other choice than abortion.
