With the highly anticipated U.S. presidential election slated to take place in less than two months, the abortion industry has invested more than $100 million to lobby for killing the unborn.
On June 24, the two-year anniversary of the historic overturning of Roe v. Wade, two major advertising announcements came from the abortion industry, indicating a significant financial investment from the industry into the November 5 election.

A press release from Planned Parenthood Action Fund announced that the abortion giant’s political groups “will spend $40 million during the 2024 election cycle.”
The investment would be made through a program called “We Decide,” which is described as an initiative to “make strategic investments to defend the White House and the Senate, take back the House, state legislatures, governor offices, and state supreme courts,” per the release. Planned Parenthood Action Fund also specified that it will back ballot measures it considers “critical” for so-called “abortion rights.”
At the time, the director of Planned Parenthood Votes, Jenny Lawson, emphasized that the abortion giant is determined not to “let them win.” She was referring to “politicians like Donald Trump” who worked to overturn Roe and accused them of trying to “control our bodies and our medical decisions.”
On the same day, a coalition of pro-abortion organizations announced a program called the “Abortion Access Now” campaign, which is “pledging a $100 million investment to advance abortion rights and access across the United States.” The money is intended to “help build a long-term federal strategy to codify the right to abortion” in America—a so-called “right” which was returned to the authority of individual states with the Dobbs decision.
The Abortion Access Now campaign is being launched by a number of major pro-abortion organizations, including Planned Parenthood, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), and the Center for Reproductive Rights (CRR). Planned Parenthood and the CRR are the top abortion lobbyists for federal measures this election cycle, according to data from Open Secrets.
More recently a political action committee (PAC) that supports Vice President Kamala Harris’ 2024 candidacy for president began a $15 million pro-abortion advertising campaign in the three swing states of Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, Catholic News Agency reports. The American Bridge 21st Century PAC will air television, radio, and digital ads promoting Harris’ abortion support and criticizing former President Donald Trump as a “threat to reproductive rights.”
At the same time the abortion lobby was gearing up to protect and advance abortion access via its lobbying coffers National pro-life group Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America was planning to fundraise and put $92 million toward the pro-life cause in the current election cycle.
Similarly, while pro-abortion lobbyists are pushing for greater access to legally kill the unborn, pro-life advocates are countering the narrative and encouraging Americans to continue the fight for the voiceless.
In an interview on EWTN’s Pro-Life Weekly podcast, Live Action founder Lila Rose said that the Dobbs decision “was a tremendous victory” but emphasized that it started “a new war” to “change the culture.” She also pointed out that “the Republican Party seems to be softening on life,” calling this shift “very disappointing because the reality is this is the time to fight more than we ever have for life.”

Rose has criticized Trump—championed by some as a defender of the unborn—for his comments this campaign cycle indicating opposition to abortion restrictions at 6 weeks, and abortion regulation at the federal level. Trump supports abortion exceptions for rape, incest, and life of the mother as well. His running mate Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance has also voiced backing for retaining access to abortion pills, which account for between 63% and 80% of abortions today, according to the June 2024 Life Trends Report published by Heartbeat International.
Rose noted the hope that the “fear” which appears to be “gripping a lot of politicians right now” will dissipate as the pro-life movement “double[s] down on our educational work [and] campaigning.” She added that these efforts will hopefully “reinvigorate not just culture but also politics down the line.”
