When Jor-El Godsey, Betty McDowell and others at Heartbeat International began to talk to me about the need for a news site dedicated to the pregnancy help community, I was intrigued, for two reasons.
For one, many of you know that for the last couple of years I’ve had a strong sense that God will use the pregnancy help community to make abortion obsolete and unthinkable. Our pregnancy help medical clinics, resource centers, maternity homes and adoption agencies provide long-term, powerful, effective solutions to the abortion question.
When we—the pregnancy help community—become the first choice for those considering abortion, the second choice, to end a pregnancy, will soon become obsolete. But we have to be the first choice.
My thinking is simple: If we are the first choice, the overwhelming majority (90%) of those who choose us ultimately choose life. They choose life because they find faith, hope and love inside our doors. The greatest of these is love—which separates us from those who oppose our work.
When those who choose us see love and the practical solutions we offer, they rarely go to that second choice.
So if we are first, those providing the second choice will no longer have buyers for their product. It stands to reason that they will soon close their doors. No abortion centers, no abortion. Simple. But true.
What does all of this have to do with Pregnancy Help News? Everything.
My sense of intrigue came from something I’ve been saying for years: As a community, we must be connected. We have conferences, which help. There are various online groups for us, and this is good. But we need one place where all of us can find out what is happening in our work, communicate with each other and stay on top of trends, challenges and even attacks.
Pregnancy Help News plans to provide each of these ingredients, creating a recipe for success—for all of us. We are better together, and the launching of Pregnancy Help News brings us closer and makes us stronger.
For all of us who want to become that first choice, Pregnancy Help News is designed to take us one giant step closer to our shared goal.
There was a second reason for my interest: At heart, I’m a news guy. In sixth grade, I started a newspaper for my school (it lasted one issue; my guess is that Pregnancy Help News will have more staying power). When I started college I was writing news and sports for local papers as I worked on a journalism degree.
So when the offer came to dive into Pregnancy Help News, I didn’t hesitate. I can’t wait to tell your story, track down new trends and provide commentary as we go.
Let’s connect—and become stronger than ever.
