President touts ‘reproductive freedom’ but pushes reproductive fearmongering

(SBA Pro-Life America) Ahead of President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris’ pro-abortion rally in Virginia, Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America debunked major falsehoods pushed by pro-abortion Democrats and issued media guidance including questions to ask:

* MYTH: Protective pro-life laws prevent women from getting life-saving care in a medical emergency.

* FACT: Every state with strong pro-life laws allows timely and necessary care for pregnant women in a medical emergency. Abortions in medical emergencies are still taking place – Texas, for example, has already seen 34 such cases.

* ASK: What are Democrats going to do to protect the 98% of healthy babies, with healthy moms, who are aborted for elective reasons?

* MYTH: Federal law requires doctors to carry out abortions in emergencies.

* FACT: EMTALA, the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act, requires consideration for both patients in each pregnancy – the mother and her unborn child.

* ASK: Federal courts have already ruled against the Biden administration twice. Why are Democrats still trying to force doctors to perform abortions, even if they don’t think that’s the best option?

* MYTH: President Biden doesn’t support abortion on demand, he simply supports “freedom.”

* FACT: The Biden-Harris administration is the most pro-abortion administration in history. Though Biden voted for limits as a U.S. senator, while running for president he caved to the radical Left and came out in favor of forcing taxpayers to fund abortion on demand. Now abortion is his top agenda item for day one if he is re-elected.

* ASK: If abortion is such a winning issue for Democrats, what’s with the shift in rhetoric? Does this mean the president disagrees with states like Michigan and Ohio having no limits – even on barbaric partial-birth abortions or abortions for minors without parental consent?

* MYTH: Republicans want a national “ban” on abortion with no exceptions.

* FACT: Congressional Republicans have repeatedly voted for consensus limits on late-term abortions when babies can feel pain, with exceptions, which seven in 10 Americans support.

* ASK: What are your limits? Is there any point in pregnancy when you think babies should be protected, and what is it? How late is too late?

* MYTH: Republicans want to stop women from getting birth control.

* FACT: No state anywhere has banned birth control. The CDC reports, “virtually all women of reproductive age…used at least one contraceptive method at some point in their life.”

* ASK: What is Democrats’ plan to help the majority of women already pregnant who don’t want to have an abortion?

* MYTH: The Supreme Court is going to ban mifepristone [abortion drug] nationwide.

* FACT: This case is about the FDA breaking the law by allowing mail-order abortion drugs without ever seeing a doctor in person. Six in 10 Americans agree that’s not safe.

* ASK: Life-threatening conditions like ectopic pregnancy can’t be diagnosed via phone or internet. In some cases, third parties have gotten abortion drugs and tried to slip them to women against their will. Why don’t Democrats think a woman should visit a doctor in person before receiving abortion drugs?

* MYTH: Democrats want to keep the government out of the abortion issue.

* FACT: Every Senate Democrat except Joe Manchin voted for legislation, supported by Biden, to overturn the laws of all 50 states and impose abortion on demand until birth nationwide.

* ASK: Senator Joe Manchin says the so-called Women’s Health Protection Act goes beyond “codifying Roe” and expands abortion. Are Democrats walking back their support for this legislation?

* MYTH: Republicans don’t do anything to help after the baby is born.

* FACT: 18 states fund life-affirming alternatives to abortion, and over 3,000 pregnancy resource centers and maternity homes nationwide serve women during pregnancy and long after their child is born. In 2022 PRCs provided over $350 million in services at no cost.

* ASK: More than eight in 10 Americans support pregnancy centers and agree our laws can protect both mom and baby. If Democrats agree with that, why did they recently vote against legislation in Congress to help pregnant women get the resources they want?

SBA Pro-Life America’s Vice President of Communications Emily Erin Davis commented:

“Abortion is Biden’s number one campaign issue and groups on the Left are already promising to spend at least $140 million to defeat pro-life candidates but even some media observers don’t believe it is their silver bullet. Most women who’ve had abortions would’ve rather kept their child if they had financial or emotional support. So why is the Biden administration making abortion their central focus? In this economy, they should be focusing on providing mothers of unplanned pregnancies with the financial and physical resources they’re desperately seeking. We must serve mothers and save children. That’s why it’s critical for Republicans to go on offense to expose Democrats as the true abortion on demand extremists. The GOP must offer real life-affirming support for pregnant women, like the U.S. House is doing and challenge Democrats to do the same. The GOP must put this message with money, if they are serious about winning.”
