The initiative, led by the Republican Party Member of Parliament, Stephan Schubert, was a response to the draft law of the government to legalise free abortion.
In the document, parliamentarians from several political parties express their commitment to the defence of life, highlighting the importance of protecting human dignity and providing integral support to women facing pregnancies in difficult contexts.
They aim to promote public policies that guarantee effective support for mothers. Measures include subsidies, care networks and a solid adoption system.

The film Amada (Beloved) was played at the same place, as part of the activities of this initiative, a symbolic gesture of their commitment to life.
“We are a large majority”
“We are very pleased to report that parliamentarians from different parties have signed a cross-party commitment for life”, underlined Schubert after the signing.
For the Member of Parliament, “a truly just society must offer different alternatives to accompany those women who are going through very complex situations. Life is a fundamental right that must be protected”.

The Republican senator and president of the Family and Children's Commission of the Senate, Carmen Gloria Aravena, stressed that “there are many women who are waiting for help, and we know that the issue of abortion is on the rise. We will strongly defend not only our personal position, but also the feelings of the Chilean people”.
“It is unfortunate that the government wants to leave a dark legacy on this issue. We are a large majority that defends life, and we will continue to advocate for the ethical, moral and Christian principles that are part of our essence and culture”, pointed out Mauro González, a deputy of the Renovación Nacional (National Renovation) party.
Parliamentarian Marlene Pérez warned that “unfortunately, the government insists on this free abortion draft law. It is unacceptable. Today, children are abandoned: there are only empty words, but no specific action to protect vulnerable children in our country”.
“We cannot accept the promotion of a free abortion Bill while the crisis of vulnerable children continues to be forgotten”, she added.
In 2024, 51 children were murdered in Chile and 6,000 are trapped in child sexual abuse networks. In addition, 35% of the children in institutions suffer serious violations of their rights.
