US Senator Kicks Off Week-long Celebration of Pregnancy Help

After introducing a senate resolution commending the work of pregnancy help organizations early last week, Utah Senator Mike Lee's video thank-you Monday morning marked the beginning of Heartbeat International's second annual "Pregnancy Help Appreciation Week."

Together with a parallel resolution in the House of Representatives, Lee's resolution in the Senate calls for this week (Nov. 9-13) to be designated as "National Pregnancy Center Week." While the resolutions are waiting to be adopted, Lee's video thanking pregnancy centers, medical clinics, maternity homes and nonprofit adoption agencies is the first in a weeklong campaign by Heartbeat International to build support and awareness of the 3,000 life-affirming nonprofits in the U.S.

"For all that we do on Capitol Hill to affirm and protect life, it pales in comparison to the face-to-face work that pregnancy help organizations do across this country every day," Lee said. "This nation is truly blessed to have so many heroes that are helping birth mothers and fathers make the courageous and selfless choice to welcome a new life into this world, regardless of their personal circumstances."

Debuted in 2014, Heartbeat International's "Pregnancy Help Appreciation Week" offers affiliates daily discounts on training materials through the Heartbeat Academy, along with thank-you messages from national leaders addressed to the pregnancy help community. The event runs through Friday.

The resolutions in the Senate and the House—the latter introduced by Vicky Hartzler (R-MO)—are currently waiting to be adopted by their respective legislators.

"If you're one of the many thousands of citizens who works or volunteers at one of these life-affirming organizations, let me say to you from the bottom of my heart, thank you," Lee said. "You're an inspiration to myself, my staff, my family, my fellow senators, and the families and communities you serve. Together, I know we can do far, far more to save many thousands more lives and create thousands more happy, healthy, nurturing families."
