The next "big thing" in ultrasonography may be arriving at a hospital--or pregnancy medical clinic--near you sooner than you'd think, according to Israeli21c.
As the news source reports, medical 3D hologram technology developed by Israeli high-tech company RealView Imaging could hit the market as early as 2015, which would allow medical personnel to project a holographic image, eliminating the need for a screen and greatly increasing doctors' ability to perform intricate surgeries.
According to RealView Imaging's website:
True holography accurately reconstructs the wave front reflected by an object, resulting in a replicated object floating in mid air. Moreover, the holographic image optically reconstructs reality and therefore the 3D holographic image is ultra realistic allowing intuitive appreciation of the three dimensional image as it possesses all required cues that include accommodation, stereopsis and convergence as well as occlusion, lighting and sometimes even colors.
The technology, which is the brainchild of Dennis Gabor, a 1971 Nobel Peace Prize winner in Physics, was featured in a 2014 episode of Grey's Anatomy, and successfully tested at Schneider Children’s Medical Center in Petach Tikva in 2014, according to Israeli21c.
