Six Catholic priests combined their musical gifts and passion for pro-life ministry recently to put on a concert that raised money for Texas-based pregnancy help centers.

The “Concert for Life” took place between August 6-9 at numerous venues in the Lone Star State cities of Hutto, Irving, and Houston. The musical fundraiser is the latest of its kind, hosted every year to support local pro-life ministries. It was first started by then seminarian David Michael Moses, who continues leading the band as part of his priestly vocation.

The initial solo act has developed into a full musical ensemble, including fellow American priests Fathers Kevin Lenius, Victor Perez, Mike Elsner, Armando Alejandro, and Max Carson.

Moses, who serves in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, released a “huge thanks to everyone who came out to support the tour” via Instagram. He added that the musical fundraisers “have collectively raised over a million dollars” since the concert’s 2012 inception and expressed that the band is “already getting hyped for next year.”

Moses is a familiar face on social media, offering a youthful perspective on Catholic culture as well as a powerful and unique witness to the pro-life movement. The Concert for Life highlights the gift and joy of life through original music touching on the genres of folk, rock, and rap in a manner that appeals to all ages.

Lenius, an electric violin-playing priest from San Angelo who has participated in the Concert for Life event for seven years, described the fundraiser as an opportunity to show people “a vision of life that is full and vibrant.” He further explained that the event “is a small glimpse into the fullness of life which comes through Jesus Christ.”

The money raised from the 2024 Concert for Life will be donated to the Respect Life Ministry at Hutto’s St. Patrick Catholic Church, the Loreto House Pregnancy and Parenting Resource Centers—located in Denton and Flower Mound—and the Houston Pregnancy Help Centers.

The Concert for Life is not the first effort that has successfully raised money for Texas pregnancy help centers over the past few years.

In November 2023, Pregnancy Help News reported that a 10-year-old girl had raised over $14,000 by running a simple lemonade stand and donating the proceeds to Wise Choices Pregnancy Center in Decatur, Texas.

Ainsley’s little business—which is helped to run smoothly and develop with her parents and younger sisters—has grown steadily in profits since its launch in 2019, when she earned about $1,300, to last year, when income totaled more than $4,300.

Abortion in Texas has been a hotbed for news in recent years. Thanks to the historic overturning of Roe v. Wade in June 2022, the state’s trigger law was finally able to go into effect, making abortion a Class A felony punishable by up to $100,000 in fines and life in prison. Almost every abortion facility in Texas have completely shut down and none of them are actively killing the unborn.

The Lone Star State made headlines earlier this year for successfully challenging efforts by Yelp to advertise pregnancy help centers as having “limited medical services and may not have licensed medical professionals onsite.” Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton filed a lawsuit against the company, arguing it was intentionally misleading the public about pro-life services.

Yelp then tried to block the case, a move which was refused by a district judge back in February.
